The golden variety of Flax seeds is mainly grown in the U.S., especially in North Dakota, and is also called “Dakota Gold”.

Flax seeds contain an important nutrient – an omega-3 fatty acid, also called alpha-linolenic acid or ALA. A tablespoon of either type of flax contains approximately 50 calories and slightly more than 2 grams of beneficial protein.

Golden flax seeds are usually only available whole and are easier to sneak into recipes
